The International Congress on Catalysis (ICC), sponsored by the International Association of Catalysis Societies, is a grand event in the international catalysis community. Synchronized with the Olympic Games, it is hailed as the "Olympics" of the catalysis field in the international academic circle. Since the first ICC was held in Philadelphia, USA in 1956, over the past 60 - odd years, the ICC has exerted a profound influence in the field of catalysis, strongly promoting the development of global catalysis science and technology. It has now become the largest - scale, highest - level, and most influential international academic conference in the catalysis field.
From July 14th to 19th, Academician Tao Zhang, Researcher Aiqin Wang, Researcher Botao Qiao, Researcher Xuning Li, and Dr. Xiangting Min from our laboratory participated in the 18th International Congress on Catalysis held in Lyon, France. The conference, themed "Roots and wings for better world", attracted more than 2,300 experts and scholars from industry and academia in 67 countries.
A total of 32 themes were set up at this conference, comprehensively demonstrating the latest progress in the field of catalysis. Among them, the ICC set up a themed sub - session on "Single - atom catalysis (T20 - Single - atom catalysis)" for the first time. Academician Tao Zhang was invited to serve as the chairperson of the sub - session, and Researcher Aiqin Wang and others jointly served as members of the sub - session committee. The single - atom catalysis sub - session included one keynote report, 15 oral reports, and 4 short oral reports. More than 300 representatives, including many internationally renowned experts, attended the single - atom catalysis sub - session, making it one of the sub - sessions with the largest number of attendees at this ICC. This indicates that single - atom catalysis remains at the forefront of international catalysis research.

Academician Tao Zhang and Professor G. Hutchings jointly served as the chairpersons of the single - atom catalysis sub - session.

Researcher Aiqin Wang from our laboratory and Professor Abhaya Datye co - chaired the keynote report delivered by Professor Jun Li.

In addition to serving as the chairperson of the single - atom catalysis sub - session, Academician Tao Zhang was also invited to deliver a keynote speech titled "Catalytic valorization of lignocellulose to low - molecular oxygen - and nitrogen - containing compounds" at the biomass catalysis sub - session. Furthermore, to encourage outstanding young scholars to commit themselves to catalytic scientific research, the conference selected the IACS Young Researcher Award. Researcher Xuning Li from our laboratory was honored with this award and presented a report themed "Applications of in situ/operando mössbauer spectroscopy in single atom catalysis". Dr. Haifeng Qi, a graduate of our laboratory, also received the Young Talents Awards.
