On the afternoon of June 15th, during the opening ceremony of the 34th Academic Annual Conference of the Chinese Chemical Society, the awarding ceremony for the series of academic awards of the Chinese Chemical Society for the 2023 - 2024 period was grandly held. Academician Tao Zhang was bestowed with the inaugural Aoqing Tang Chemistry Prize. The rationale behind this prestigious honor is his groundbreaking proposal of the concept of single - atom catalysis, which has been instrumental in charting the course for the development of the catalysis discipline.

In a bid to further accelerate the progress of the chemical field, pay homage to and perpetuate the spirit of Mr. Aoqing Tang, and inspire a new generation of scientific researchers to embark on pioneering and innovative research trajectories within the realm of chemistry, the Aoqing Tang Education Foundation of Jilin University initiated the Aoqing Tang Chemistry Prize on a national scale in 2024. The Chinese Chemical Society shoulders the crucial responsibility of evaluating nominations and determining the ultimate awardees. This esteemed award is conferred once every two years, with only one recipient selected each time.

In strict accordance with the "Selection Criteria for the Aoqing Tang Chemistry Prize", the candidates for the first - ever Aoqing Tang Chemistry Prize were nominated through a "recommendation system". Members of the Academic Award Recommendation Committee of the Chinese Chemical Society scrupulously recommended outstanding chemists who met the stringent awarding criteria to the Chinese Chemical Society.
